Say What You Mean
When you meet someone, when you introduce your product to someone, when your target market sees your ad material . . . you get about one microscopic-split-second to make an impression.
Seriously, most people are so busy and hyper-distracted these days, the decision to keep looking, reading, learning–the “hook”–has to happen very, very quickly.
This is not the time to be cute or coy about your message. Nobody cares how witty you are until *after* they are hooked.
I went to a networking event today and I met a woman who had written a book. (No names or identifiers–I hope she doesn’t see this and become offended!) I picked up the book, read the title, and, based on the cover graphic and the title, I thought it was about one topic when it turned out to be about something completely different! And she said to me, “I know! Everyone thinks that!” She thought it was funny that they thought that. As if she had planned it that way. (more…)
